PRIVACY POLICY

How we collect, use, and protect your information when you shop with Big Shoes.

Last updated: April 2026 (saved-fit shared with Klaviyo for newsletter subscribers)

Overview

Big Shoes (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates this website to sell footwear in hard-to-find sizes. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using our website or placing an order, you agree to the practices described here.

Information We Collect

Information you give us

When you create an account, place an order, sign up for our newsletter, or contact customer service, we collect details such as your name, shipping and billing address, email address, phone number, and order contents. Payment information is handled directly by Shopify and our payment processors — we do not store full card numbers on our servers.

Information collected automatically

When you browse the site, we automatically collect device and usage information, including IP address, browser type, pages viewed, referring URLs, and timestamps. This helps us secure the site, troubleshoot issues, and understand how customers use our store.

Information from third parties

We may receive information about you from Shopify (our commerce platform), payment processors, shipping carriers, and analytics or advertising partners — for example, fraud-prevention signals or aggregate audience data.

How We Use Your Information

  • Process, fulfill, and ship your orders, including returns and exchanges.
  • Provide customer support and respond to your questions.
  • Send transactional emails (order confirmations, shipping updates, receipts) and, if you have opted in, marketing emails about new arrivals and promotions.
  • Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents.
  • Improve our products, website, and merchandising decisions through analytics and aggregate reporting.
  • Comply with our legal and tax obligations.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to keep you signed in, remember your cart, measure site performance, and — where you have consented — power advertising and personalization. In the EU, EEA, UK, Switzerland, and Canada, optional cookies stay off until you accept them through our consent banner. We also honor the Global Privacy Control (Sec-GPC) signal as an opt-out of sale and sharing.

We also store a small “saved fit” preference cookie (__bigshoes_fit) that remembers the size and width you most recently picked, so we can show you your size first the next time you visit. This is a strictly functional preference — not advertising, not analytics — and the cookie itself never leaves Big Shoes. You can clear it any time from the “Showing your saved fit” banner that appears at the top of the catalog page, or by deleting cookies in your browser.

If you have signed up for our newsletter, we additionally share your most recently picked size and width with our email service provider (Klaviyo) as saved_size and saved_width profile properties so we can email you when a new shoe launches in your size. We only do this for shoppers who have opted in to marketing emails — non-subscribers never have any saved-fit data sent to Klaviyo. You can stop this sharing at any time by clearing your saved fit (which removes the same properties from your Klaviyo profile) or by unsubscribing from our newsletter, which also halts the “New in your size” flow.

You can change your choices at any time by clicking “Cookie preferences” in the footer. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the site may not work as expected if you do.

How We Share Information

We share personal information only as needed to operate our business or as required by law. We do not sell your personal information for money. Categories of recipients include:

  • Service providers who run our store on our behalf — Shopify (commerce and checkout), payment processors, shipping carriers, email service providers (Klaviyo), customer support tools, and hosting providers.
  • Analytics and advertising partners that help us measure performance and reach customers, only to the extent allowed by your consent choices and applicable law.
  • Legal and safety recipients when required by law, subpoena, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of Big Shoes, our customers, or others.
  • Business transfers, such as in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets.

Data Retention and Security

We keep personal information for as long as needed to provide our services, comply with legal, accounting, and tax obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Order records are typically retained for at least seven years for tax purposes.

We use industry-standard administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect personal information. No method of transmission over the internet is fully secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or port your personal information; to object to or restrict certain processing; and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your information for targeted advertising. These include rights under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).

To exercise these rights, email us at privacy@bigshoes.com. We may need to verify your identity before responding. You can also unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link at the bottom of any marketing message.

Children’s Privacy

Our site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

International Visitors

Big Shoes is based in the United States. If you access our site from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US, which may have different data-protection laws than your home country. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as the EU Standard Contractual Clauses) for these transfers.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Material changes will be communicated through the site or by email where appropriate.
